Cha Nom Yen is Thai iced tea made from strongly brewed black tea and sweetened condensed milk, poured over ice. It tastes sweet and creamy, with a strong tea flavor. Ready-made Thai tea mixes turn it orange, and with regular black tea it stays light brown.

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp black tea, loose, or 4 tea bags
  • 240 ml boiling water
  • 2 to 3 tbsp sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp sugar syrup, or to taste
  • 75 g ice cubes
  • 1 tbsp evaporated milk (optional)

Instructions

  1. Put the loose tea or the tea bags in a teapot.
  2. Pour the boiling water over the tea and let it steep for 3 to 5 minutes, depending on how strong you want it.
  3. Remove the tea bags or strain out the loose tea.
  4. Stir the sweetened condensed milk and the sugar syrup into the hot tea until well combined.
  5. Fill a large glass halfway with ice cubes.
  6. Pour the sweet tea over the ice.
  7. Optionally, add a splash of evaporated milk for a creamier texture.
  8. Stir and serve right away.
